Something about us

About us

Little Penguin Early Learning Centre is a newly established 90-place privately owned long day care and preschool in Kilsyth. Our family-owned business operates 5 days a week between the hours of 7am to 6pm. We have 5 purposefully designed rooms to cater for children from 6 weeks to 6 years of age. Our goal is to provide children a supportive environment to thrive in their early years with education, health, development and general wellbeing. We provide a stimulating and safe nurturing learning environment that encourages children to discover the world around them.

It is our primary focus to collaborate with families to ensure positive transitions into care are experienced, no matter the age in which a child begins the journey. Secure attachments are the first foundations necessary before a child will freely engage with his environment. We pride ourselves in bridging the gap between home and care and striving for an environment that welcomes you in, enticing a secure love of self and curiosity for lifelong learning.

Our Philosophy

We support children’s discovery through play.
At Little Penguin Early Learning Centre, we are committed to creating a nurturing, stimulating, and welcoming environment for all children. We apply the Early Years Learning Framework and multiple early childhood pedagogical theories to guide our practice and to scaffold children’s learning. We strive to empower children to reach their full potential and to foster a lifelong love for learning. We uphold the notion of the environment being the third teacher. Hence, we provide for experiences, resources and materials that are of children’s interest and developmental needs. Children are invited to interact with and explore the environment. Our learning program encourages children to engage in positive interactions with their peers and educators through meaningful play-based experiences. Our team of educators create environments that are inspiring, aesthetic, sustainable and stimulating for children’s learning. We believe that children are constructors of their own knowledge. We plan the environment and activities that allows for children to revisit, explore, discover and construct their own knowledge. Children are invited to interact with their peers, educators and the environment to gain knowledge. We empower children to become capable individuals and plan time for children to explore and revisit their learning.
We support children’s development in all areas of development.
Little Penguin Early Learning Centre’s philosophy is deeply evolves around the Theory of Multiple Intelligence proposed by Howard Gardner. At our centre, we support children’s holistic development through creating opportunities for children to develop each of the eight intelligences. We recognise children’s uniqueness, individual strengths and capabilities. Experiences and resources across the eight intelligences are planned and provided for children to interact, explore, hone their skills and develop their knowledge. By embedding the notion of Multiple Intelligence into our program, we ensure that children are given opportunities to develop holistically.
We partner families in supporting children’s growth.
We recognise the important role the family plays in a young child’s life. We respect parents as the children’s first and most important teachers. Hence, we seek to form strong relationships with parents to support children’s growth. We communicate regularly with parents to exchange ideas and forge a strong home school partnership. We place a strong emphasis on involving families in the child's learning journey and partner them in making curriculum decisions. We want to establish and maintain respectful, trusting, and reciprocal relationships between children, families, educators, and the wider community. We believe children can realise their full potential under the collaboration between educators, families, and the wider community.
We build an inclusive community where all are respected and welcomed.
We support children to develop a sense of belonging to the Little Penguin and the wider community. We value cultural diversity. We believe that an inclusive environment helps children gain confidence to explore their becoming and to explore their cultural identity. We believe that children can develop empathy and understanding for others when they are part of an inclusive community. We want to see children feeling connected to the broader community and being respectful to diversity. We scaffold children in developing an awareness of their own world view and acknowledging others’. We believe that children’s positive attitudes regarding cultural differences are beneficial to our community. Little Penguin Early Learning Centre follows practices that are inclusive and responsive to diversity and children with additional needs. Our team of educators considers all children’s social, cultural and linguistic diversity (including learning styles, abilities, disabilities, gender, family circumstances and geographic location) in curriculum decision-making processes.

Our philosophy is inspired by the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF), the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligence, Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory, Piaget’s Theory of Cognitive Development, Erik Erikson's Stages of Psychosocial Development, and Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Systems Theory.
