Day-pouch Room

We recognise the importance of the first few years of a child’s life. At Little Penguin ELC, our educators plan for experiences and activities in a safe yet engaging environment with developmentally appropriate resources. The babies are encouraged to explore the environment and build strong and secure relationships with the educators. Our educators consider each child’s interest and goals when planning for the program.

Well-being
In the Day-pouch room, the educators welcome the infants in and interact with them in a warm and positive way. This helps to form strong attachments with the educators. The educators respond to the infant’s needs in a timely and consistent manner. This helps the infants to build trust and turn to the educators for security and comfort.
Physical Development
At Little Penguin ELC, the infants are provided opportunities to explore the nature environment and space. The educators plan for a range of experiences to help support the infants in developing their motor skills.
Cognitive Development
The educators observe the infants for their interests and plan for experiences to help infants make sense of the world. The educators engage the infants in sensorial play to help the infants explore different textures, materials and objects using their senses.
Individual Care

•Safe sleeping
We follow the Red Nose Australia’s safe sleeping practices to keep our babies safe and ensure that we provide an environment that supports the infant’s sleep and rest. Research found that biologically a 9-12 months old baby can stay awake for 2.5 hours at the maximum. Babies become tired and unhappy as they exceed this time period. They might lose the ability to concentrate, become grumpier, lose the ability to learn new information and cry more. One of the focuses in baby room is to ensure children take high quality mid-day nap. Each child has their own cot and sleep chart with detailed information, including name, attending days, sleep time and habits (patting, comfort items, formula or milk before sleep, etc.)

•Tummy time
Tummy time is promoted at Little Penguin ELC. Through tummy time, the babies can strengthen their core muscles and balance.

•Our OWNA app
Each child eating status will be recorded via OWNA, such as serves and time. In the cot room, each child will have their own cot and bed sheet or their own bed. We record children’s sleep time, duration, waking time via OWNA to keep parents updated. We also conduct sleep check every 10 minute to prevent sleeping accidents. Every nappy change, check and toileting attempt will be recorded via OWNA to give parents peace of mind. Educators will work closely with parents if the child is ready for toileting training.
